Mod farmhouse with unique design take asks $795K

Central East Austin home with one-of-a-kind design

We’ve been keeping an eye on this interesting home—located two lots away of East Side Pies off Rosewood Avenue in Central East Austin—since it was built in 2012. Apparently, we aren’t the only ones, as it’s now on the market with a healthy price tag.

Designed and built by local firm Hatch Works (whose owners have lived there with their family for several years), the house has been featured in local print magazines, including Tribeza, for its interiors, which indeed show more imagination than the hyper-Protestant, stripped-down modern farmhouses of late. Its winding, shiplap stairwell, for instance, is visually interesting as well as functional for people learning to count.

The two-story house has three bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms, 9- and 10-foot ceilings, wooden floors, and the proverbial lots of light. It measures 1,601 square feet and has been sited creatively on a deep, somewhat narrow lot. The home also has a large backyard with a steel pergola and storage shed.
