In some kind of synchronicity, the Waller Creek Show starts tonight, just as Austin Design Week is about to wind down and the East Austin Studio Tour winds up.
Now in its third year, the Creek Show involves five light installations created by local artists, architects, and landscape architects and placed above, below, and in the water between Fifth and Eighth streets.
The show, which is intended to bring attention to the Waller Creek Restoration Project, has grown in popularity exponentially. Many of the businesses along the creek partner with the Conservancy to make the show happen, and, along with regular viewing opportunities from 6 pm to 10 pm nightly from Nov. 10 through Nov. 19, there are family-friendly special events, games, and specials from the adjacent Red River businesses.
Tonight’s opening includes several DJ sets and a preview of a site-specific dance piece to be performed in full on Dec. 3 and 4 on the Orly Genger’s Hurly Burly art installation by the creek.
