The 10 most affordable homes in Barton Hills

Bargain-hunting in the central Southwest

Data analytics site NeighborhoodX is conducting an ongoing study of affordability in major U.S. cities. As part of this study, NeighborhoodX examined the most affordable market-rate properties in each neighborhood of those cities.

This chart excerpts part of their research on Austin, looking at the 10 most affordable properties in Barton Hills. Barton Hills is a southwest-central neighborhood that runs in that direction from Lady Bird Lake along Zilker Park between MoPac/Barton Springs on the west and Robert E. Lee Road/Rabb Road Rae Dell Avenue and South Lamar to the east, capping off at highways 290 and 71 on the southwest.

The study excludes studios, since they tend not to be viable as long-term residences, as well as properties that cannot be purchased with conventional financing, such as affordable/age-restricted housing, and certain listings with incomplete or contradictory information.

The 10 most affordable properties currently for sale in Barton Hills that met NeighborhodX’s study criteria ranged from $252,000 to $725,000. The most affordable was a one-bedroom condo at 1741 Spyglass Drive #1-325, asking $252,500.

On a per-square-foot basis, these properties ranged from $247-434/square foot.
