Austin Rent: What $1,500/Month Gets You

New, 1 comment

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, a column that explores what one can rent for a set dollar amount in various Austin neighborhoods. Is one person's studio another person's townhouse? Let's find out! Today's price: $1,500.

↑ 3141 East 12th, one-bedroom, $1,500: This freestanding house, at 482 square feet, looks as cute, and almost as small, as a button. It's brand new and in a "gated community" on Rosewood, though it probably does not come with the elitism usually associated with that term. It has pretty finishes everywhere and a washer-dryer in each unit. Pets, who knows?

↑ 5106 North Lamar, studio apartment, $1,454: Okay, we might have to actually go see this little gem in what looks like a truly nutty-in-a-good-way, throwback complex called the Parker. It's on a part of Lamar near 51st Street that makes us think it might be one of those cool old motels that used to line the road. It has all the mod cons plus bocce, a life-sized chess board, and a reflection pool. No word on pets, so we're guessing probably not.

↑ 3801 South Congress, two-bedroom apartment, $1,472+: This two-bedroom, two-bathroom unit, located at The Berkshire SoCo Apartments just south of St. Edward's University, is in one of the newer mixed-use buildings that have been populating that area. Gym, pool, vape store downstairs—it comes with the works. Cats and small dogs accepted.

↑ 3401 Red River, two-bedroom apartment, $1,484+: This updated space in a longstanding apartment complex close to UT looks like sophomore-year heaven. In addition to its groovy design, it features many outdoor party spaces, including a pool, a fireplace, and an area for watching multiple TVs. It also has the requisite gym and bank of desktop iMacs. It looks like the complex has studios and one-bedrooms as well, but this two-bedroom is currently listed on Zillow. It allows cats and small dogs.

↑ 1620 East Riverside, one-bedroom apartment, $1,509: Speaking of students, here's a Riverside sublet located in the ALMI Southshore building. The interiors look adequately updated and pleasant, but the real selling point is its location on the lake, a few yards away from the front door. Cats and dogs okay.
