Yeti Appears To Be Expanding Its Habitat

Austin's next mascot?

Yeti, makers of coolers and other outdoor gear rugged enough for a fishing trip or a frat party, has become quite the popular brand since brothers Roy and Ryan Seiders founded the company in Austin 10 years ago.

Now, according to the Austin Business Journal, it looks like Yeti is expanding its local presence, perhaps seeking a wider range in the way of its mythical namesake. Or just going public, as ABJ conjectures.

Whatever the case, the magazine's Jan Bucholz dug up documents that indicate a 20,000-square-foot Yeti Product Development Lab is planned for 4635 Boston Lane, in one of southwest Austin's light-industry parks.

Bucholz also reports that Yeti has finalized a remodel of 4,580 square feet of office space at nearby 5301 Southwest Parkway. Additionally, she reports that construction under way in the quirky retail space at the corner of South Congress Avenue and Barton Springs Road (near the bat sculpture) might indicate that Yeti is planning its first storefront there, but she could not confirm that. The building is by Austin-based Cielo Property Group.
