A former Austin home of 36th U.S. president and possible Most Famous Texan Ever Lyndon Baines Johnson can be yours during SXSW 2016 for $9,244 per night.
It's not his famed Hill Country ranch and final resting place, but the country-styled family home is much closer to the SXSW goings-on—three miles from downtown and half a mile from Lake Austin, to be exact. The remodeled 8-bedroom, 8-bath house sleeps 16 and features a pool, three kitchens (two indoor, one out), and a sport court.
If you have a hard time imagining LBJ on a sport court, you're not alone—though it's a little easier to envision him on the nearby Lions Municipal Golf Course links. LBJ Library archivist Barbara Cline can put any skepticism to rest, though; she confirms that the Johnsons purchased the house in 1943 and lived there off and on until 1951, finally selling it, for understandable reasons, in 1963.
The HomeAway listing manager adds that the Dillman Street property was originally a duplex and has been remodeled many times before reaching the status of ultimate sophisticated party vacation rental.
