SXSW Music Will See More Street Closures, Extended Bus Hours

Who run this town?

We don't usually run the same map numerous times (except on Twitter), but in this case, it makes sense.

After SXSW Interactive leaves town and Music takes over (with Film doing a little of both), everything changes. Again. If you look closely (and you pretty much have to), you'll see a number of street closure changes and additions for SXSW Music only. Most of them started yesterday.

Here are some other fun transportation-affecting changes around town for the next few days:

• First lady Michelle Obama will be in town today. She's speaking at the Austin Convention Center this morning, but we don't know where she'll go after that. Expect random-seeming temporary road closures.

• Capital MetroRail will run later than usual through Saturday, March 19. Here's the full schedule. bus routes will be detoured this week. The affected routes include Nos. 4 (Montopolis), 17 (Cesar Chavez), 21 (Exposition), 22 (Chicon), 100 (MetroAirport IB), 122 (Four Points Limited) and 484 (Night Owl South Lamar). Visit the Cap Metro website for a map and details on each route’s closed and alternate stops. Detours will remain in effect through Sunday, March 20.

• Likewise, Capital Metro's Night Owl and MetroRapid buses—which serve much of the downtown event area—will continue to run later through March 19. Schedule here.

• On the downside, several of Cap Metro's regular bus routes will have detours during the fest. Those include Montopolis, East Cesar Chavez, MetroAirport, Four Points Limited, and South Lamar Night Owl routes (some in one direction, others in both). Here are the mapped detours.
