Austin Rent Comparison: What You Get for $1,400/Month

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, a column that explores what one can rent for a set dollar amount in various Austin neighborhoods. Is one person's studio another person's townhouse? Let's find out! Today's price: $1,400.

1207 Salina Street, two-bedroom, one-bathroom house, $1,400/month: It's small (540 square feet) but adorable (though maybe a little more adorable before it was updated and staged). It's also in Central East Austin and has a backyard and a high walkability score. The pet policy is not mentioned in the listing.

1604 East 32nd Street, one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment, $1,400/month: This apartment is large-ish for a one-bedroom (810 square feet), updated (or new), and located in the madly central and popular Cherrywood neighborhood. Dogs and cats welcome.

10704 Marshitas Way, three-bedroom, two-bathroom house, $1,499/month: A single-family home south of Slaughter Lane, this house has a deck and yard, plus a custom dog house. So, yes, it's pet-friendly.

2017 Bluebonnet Lane, two-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment, $1,400/month: Located in an updated older complex (by which we mean old enough to have low-slung rock facades on its front buildings and walls), this apartment is in the choice central Zilker neighborhood just off South Lamar Boulevard. Dogs and cats are both allowed.

2601 Scofield Ridge Parkway, three-bedroom, two bathroom apartment, $1,415/month: Situated between Parmer Lane and Wells Branch Parkway just east of MoPac, this North Austin three-bedroom is fairly large (1,344 square feet) and allows cats and dogs.
