It's been a busy week for Stratus Properties. On Monday, it was announced that the ever-expansive development company acquired local promotions company Transmissions Events, and with it Fun Fun Fun Fest—Austin's formerly indie festival that was once ACL Fest's scruffier frenemy and an unusual acquisition for Stratus.
Yesterday, the Austin American-Statesman reported that the company has signed a deal with Moviehouse & Eatery, a chain that could not have a more literal name, to anchor Lantana Place, its planned development in Southwest Austin.
The theater underscores the entertainment focus that Stratus CEO Beau Armstrong told the paper he foresees for the $80 million, 325,000-square-foot mixed-use development at Southwest Parkway and West William Cannon Drive. The property might also have a hotel, he told the Statesman.
Moviehouse & Eatery, which offers an upscale movie-viewing experience that includes plush chairs, fine food, and a bar, has one location in Northwest Austin and a two more in North Texas. The 42,700-square-foot Lantana Place theater will have 10 screens, the Statesman reports.
