Modern West Lake Home With Sophisticated Take on 1968 Design Asks $1.85M

Warm wood built-ins and natural stone emphasize classic period features

This two-story, 1968 home in the hills of West Lake was the beneficiary of a 2011 remodel that used unexpected materials and built-ins to create a sophisticated, inviting take on its period design.

The 4,768-square-foot house is perched on a scenic hillside, and the design focuses attention on windows, patios, balconies, and views on the back of the house. Interior spaces are redone with warm wood built-ins, natural stone, and inviting color tones that emphasize such original features as the vaulted ceilings and exposed beams.

The four-bedroom, four-bathroom home is on a 1.1-acre lot that also contains a three-bedroom, two-and-half-bathroom guest house.
