Austin Is the Country’s Ninth Best City, Say Travel + Leisure Readers

New, 1 comment

Festivals, food, tech—can’t lose

Austin is no New York City or New Orleans, granted, but Travel + Leisure puts us at No. 9 in its reader survey for the World’s Best Awards, meaning we beat out Portland (making its debut on the list), Boston, and—most important—San Antonio in its readers’ list of the Best Cities in the United States.

According to T+L, this year’s poll participants were particularly enamored of the American South, though its inclusion of two Texas cities west of Houston in that category is questionable at best.

Coming in just behind New York City (really?), Austin is noted for its world-famous festivals, its “hip food scene” (hey, Austin Eater), and the local presence of Apple, Google, and Facebook. Readers rated cities on their sights and landmarks, culture, food, friendliness, shopping, and overall value.
