Open-air movie viewings are one of the best things about summer (as long as you are prepared with blankets, towels, bug spray, and plenty of water, it must be said). Austin has many such screenings (and live theater) throughout the summer, but tonight brings a unique version of the late-season pleasure: Adult Swim, Cartoon Network spinoff channel for grownups, is bringing its roadshow to the Blue Starlite Mini Urban Drive-In Tuesday (that’s tonight!).
For those unfamiliar with its micro-niche but extremely popular broadcasting, Adult Swim ruled the early 2000s with animated and live action shows, series, videos, and general video weirdness aimed at, as the name makes clear, adults. The network is still on the air, but it has special nostalgic appeal to people who were in their twenties and thirties during its heyday—let’s call them "millennials."
Adult Swim’s Roadshow will feature as-yet-unaired episodes of shows, pilots, and specials, along with a lot of other random weirdness. There will be food trucks, trivia, and prizes, including free vouchers for food trucks while supplies left. The show gets going at 7:30pm, but car lineup starts at 5pm. You should RSVP (and get more information) here, like, right now if you want to go.
