While a steady but small number of Austinites have always drifted out to Driftwood—a small Hill Country community 30 miles southwest of Austin and home of Salt Lick Barbecue—that drift might become a larger flow with the planned development of the area by the Salt Lick pitmaster himself.

Still, there appears to be plenty of land still available for sizable family homes and their horses, even within growing subdivisions. This new contemporary in the gated La Ventana subdivision, for instance, sits on 3.5 acres and measures 3,954 square feet, surrounded by what looks like is still abundant space full of century-old oaks, horseback-riding trails, and other pleasures enjoyed by the gentleman or gentlewoman rancher.

The home has four bedrooms and four bathrooms and features a generously sized great room features with 18-foot ceilings, wall-sized wood sliders, and a linear gas fireplace. It’s one of those houses you can see through (nice), so that the large main room opens up to more space on each side.

The kitchen features custom, minimalist wood cabinetry, a neutral color palate, and a mix of materials, including the granite island and quartz countertops. There’s also a walk-in pantry and separate wine closet.

This home is energy-efficient, with all-LED pot lights, interior insulation, an electric hybrid hot water heater, and solar-ready electrical panel.

The master suite is a tranquil retreat with sweeping views, large windows and walk-in closet with custom cabinetry. The resort-like spacious master bath contains a large soaking tub, oversized walk-in shower, quartz countertops, and designer fixtures.

The office/game room is separate from the central living area. Three additional bedrooms located away from the master wing feature large windows and plenty of storage. Three additional bathrooms have custom cabinetry, designer fixtures and quartz countertops.

The backyard includes a covered patio, a limestone fireplace, and a barbecue area with sink, as well as a blue saltwater pool, stone masonry, and lush native landscaping.
