New Barton Creek home with bohemian touches asks $2.2M

Is this still called ‘shabby chic’?

The eye-popping color and busy staging of this home make it appealing to those who love a little whimsy (controlled chaos?) in their lives—not that there’s anything wrong with that. What lies beneath the new build, though, is a sleek, open contemporary that offers an abundance of flexibility: One could pare down or pile on according to personal taste. It’s really quite a relief from sometimes endless-seeming photos of open-plan spaces with bare white walls and acres of blond wood flooring.

The Barton Creek home is rather large—4,494 square feet—and has quite a few rooms in addition to its five bedrooms and six bathrooms—including the largest, most fun-looking laundry room we’ve ever seen. That could be good news for large families or just for people who like a lot of different rooms, as opposed to the sort of loft-style, open-plan homes that are currently everywhere (though it must be noted that the kitchen/family/dining area does conform to that style).

The main part of the house features a double-sided fireplace, tall ceilings, an open floor plan, and a chef’s kitchen. Then there’s that. laundry. room. There are also several smaller rooms and nooks that offer more intimacy and privacy.

The home’s five bedrooms and five bathrooms show off its style. Who doesn’t love a hot pink chaise lounge in the bathroom?

Although the home does come with a membership in Barton Creek Country Club, it might be hard to tear oneself away from this pool, where the landscaping expertly incorporates the native terrain.
