A monument, merriment, and a (half) marathon await

As the winter holidays rev up, we’re looking at more street closures, though most cover less ground than some of the parades, marathons, and rallies/protests we saw earlier in the year.

The main event this weekend is, of course, the traditional Holiday Sing-Along and Downtown Stroll at the Capitol. First up, though, also on Saturday, we have the Price of Liberty Monument Unveiling (and BBQ Lunch) on the east grounds of the Capitol. It’s already sold out, but if you are attending, there’s free parking (map below). If you are not attending, there are a couple of streets you might want to avoid for a bit. Per the Downtown Austin Alliance, as always:

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 2

Price of Liberty Monument Unveiling

5:00 AM to 12:30 PM

BRAZOS

Between 13th St and 12th St

12TH AND 13TH STREET

Between San Jacinto and Brazos

SAN JACINTO

Between 14th St and 12th St

Free parking for the monument unveiling event is here:

You don’t really need a map for the annual Holiday Sing-Along and Downtown Stroll, since it mostly takes place on the Capitol grounds, but there are a couple of associated street closures.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 2

Holiday Sing-Along and Downtown Stroll

2:00 PM to 11:00 PM

CONGRESS AVENUE

Sunday sees the inevitable run/walk event—this one the 3M Half Marathon. Street closures for that are few, but they do seem to be an all-day thing.
