Unlike a good guard dog would have, we let Barkitecture sneak up on us this year. The annual fundraiser, now in its 12th year, pits designers, builders, and other interested parties against one another in lighthearted competition for best custom doghouse design.

The entries are displayed and awarded rankings at a show hosted by Jo’s Coffee on South Congress, where there’s a also a dog-friendly party and silent auction, as well as family-friendly activities, local vendor booths, a “dogstume” contest, and opportunities for education about animal adoption and advocacy opportunities.

The event is sponsored by nonprofit group Animal Lovers of Austin, which this year is partnering with Austin Pets Alive!, Lizzy’s Animal Hospice, and Meals on Wheels’ PALS Program as its beneficiaries. This year’s event is Saturday, Nov. 4, noon-4pm. You can see photos of last year’s event here.
