This Saturday marks the ninth year that the Austin Modern Home Tour, founded by GoodLife Luxury and produced by the Modern Architecture and Design Studio, will open up some of the city’s best examples of modern and contemporary residential design to the public and provide opportunities to speak to the architects and builders that conceptualized and executed those homes.

This year looks to live up to the tour’s reputation, featuring some stunning homes and canny innovation—including the inventiveness displayed in Thurman Homes’ site-specific project atop a wet weather creek and Bade Stageberg Cox’s climate-controlled shutters formed from perforated aluminum panels and inspired by the moon phase charts (!).

Modern design concepts, such as Bercy Chen’s Tetra House—inspired in part by the constructivist paintings of El Lissitzky and Mexican Modernism from the 50s and 60s—will also be on abundant display in all parts of town. Below are a few peeks of what tour participants can anticipate.
