Texas Independence Day will see brief downtown street closures

As street closures go, this one doesn’t rival those of the upcoming SXSW maelstrom, but we all like to keep up with what event(s) will be blocking traffic celebrated on major streets on the weekend.

This weekend—Saturday, March 4, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., the Texas Independence Parade and 5K will take place on Congress Avenue and include the closure of some surrounding streets during that time.

Specifically, according to the Downtown Austin Alliance’s street closure page, blockage will be as follows:

CONGRESS AVENUE, ANN RICHARDS BRIDGE

Between Riverside Drive and Cesar Chavez Street

The bridge will close at 5:00 am and reopen at 11:00 am.

CONGRESS AVENUE

Between Cesar Chavez Street and 11th Street

11TH STREET

Between Brazos Street and Lavaca Street

CESAR CHAVEZ, 2ND, 3RD, 4TH, 5TH, 6TH, 7TH, 8TH, 9TH 10TH STREETS

(Partial Closure)

Between Brazos Street and Colorado Street

Local traffic will be allowed to access destinations in the 100 block east and the 100 block west of all Congress Avenue cross streets.

CESAR CHAVEZ STREET

Between Guadalupe Street and Lavaca Street

Westbound lanes will remain open.

11TH STREET

(Partial Closure)

Between Brazos Street and San Jacinto Boulevard

Eastbound lanes will remain open.

12TH, 13TH, 14TH STREETS

Between Brazos Street and Lavaca Street

BRAZOS STREET

Between 12th Street and 15th Street

BRAZOS STREET

Between 12th Street and 15th Street
