The Hill Country contemporary design that San Antonio-Austin firm Lake|Flato Architects was so important in developing has some pretty distinct characteristics, especially from its 1990s years. It’s a sort of stripped-down rustic style, with much use of such “honest” materials as limestone, concrete, and wood, all left in a less polished state than one might find them elsewhere.

The style at times can look dated, as parts of this one do, but a change of decor or other malleable features can fix that. Besides, one of its other traits is a tendency to include lots of almost spa-like spaces, especially outdoors, and what kind of monster wouldn’t be down with that, perpetually?

This Tarrytown property most definitely has that trait, in spades. Located on 1.2 acres (in the middle of town, basically), the 6,363-square-foot home has the look and feel of a fancy retreat—and one you can reach without much of a commute, at that.

The lovely, immaculately planned and kept grounds include outdoor entertainment areas and feature numerous heritage oaks. There’s also a concert area (!), Olympic lap pool, recreational pool, and a Japanese-influenced, outdoor hot tub and shower area off the master bathroom.

The home has five bedrooms and five bathrooms and was built in 1998.

In addition to its bedrooms, four living rooms, formal dining room, and kitchen, there’s an upstairs bonus room.
