A small house in Austin is on the market for less than $200K

Um, what?

This is somewhat shocking (in a good way), but it appears to be true: You can buy a house in Austin for $180,000. It’s a freestanding, single-family home. It’s not a freestanding condo: just the one house, with the front and back yards. Moreover, it looks to be in great shape and ready for move-in (or renting out, whatever).

Yes, it’s in Far North Austin, in the Copperfield neighborhood. That also seems to be a largely good thing, however, inasmuch as Copperfield is located on a lovely stretch of Walnut Creek and is one of the city’s certified Green Neighborhoods (due in large part to its excellent group creek-keeping).

It’s also rather small, of course: 854 square feet, with two bedrooms and one bathroom. Nevertheless, it’s updated and has an open floor plan, vaulted ceilings, a fireplace, custom cabinets, and stained concrete floors, as well as small but proper front and back yards.

Polished concrete floors throughout lend a clean look that helps make the 1982 home feel more contemporary.

The fenced backyard features a wood deck, tiered landscaping, a cactus garden, raised beds, and a masonry fire pit.
