While downtown, South, and Central East Austin are currently getting more than their share of the city’s new-hotel development activity, the Austin-American Statesman reported Tuesday that one national chain is going a little further afield, staking its local claim closer to the airport.
According to the daily, Choice Hotels on Tuesday announced plans to build one of its Cambria Suites properties at East Ben White Boulevard and East Riverside Drive in Southeast Austin. Cloud Nine Hospitality will operate the four-story, 134-room hotel will be operated, the story added; a 2019 opening is expected.
Mark Shalala, a Choice Hotels vice-president issued via press statement the standard nods to Austin “booming tech sector, thriving music scene and several annual events which make it a popular destination for both business and leisure travelers,” according to the Statesman.
When completed, the hotel will be the only Austin location of Cambria Suites, the upscale brand Choice launched in 2005, the article noted, adding that there are currently currently three locations in Texas, with many more planned or already in the works.
