LGBTQIA celebrants who were looking forward to Austin’s traditional August bash know, of course, that Hurricane Harvey put the kibosh on those plans.
This year’s parade was rescheduled for Saturday and, as The Austin Chronicle’s “Gay Place” column informs us, some out-of-towners, as well as some a number of local would-be celebrants already had other plans for the date.
Moreover, the parade, which had to be scheduled on the only day the city had available, will be separate from the Pride celebration—a festival with musical acts, dance parties, and other performers and events (that will take place Oct. 21).
Not to worry, though; the parade will go on, and no doubt go on spectacularly, and there are plenty of folks who can’t wait to take their Pride to the Austin streets.
The parade is scheduled to run 8 p.m. until 11 p.m. and will have three emcee stages for post-parade partying. The parade is free, but VIP passes for special seating can be purchased from Austin Pride.
Below is a description of the parade route and street closures for the event, followed by a map, courtesy of The Downtown Austin Alliance.
