While Austin, for some reason, lacks Thanksgiving or New Year’s Day parades, we have plenty that make up for them, including those celebrating QueerBomb, Juneteenth, Pride Dias de los Muertos, among others.
The parade celebrating the life and legacy of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. is one of the best, and it feels especially important this year. It takes place Monday, Jan. 15, 10:45 p.m. to noon. Below is a map of the parade route and a list of street closures, via the Downtown Austin Alliance website.
(Also of note: The Sustainable Food Center resumes its Saturday farmers markets in Republic Square this weekend, so West Fourth Street between between Guadalupe and San Antonio streets will be closed from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. ever Saturday until further notice.)
