While we wish this large, mid-1950s home hadn’t been quite so generically updated and staged, its classic lines, thankfully, remain. Located on the aptly named Sylvan Drive in the southern side of East Riverside-Oltorf, the stone, Hardiplank-type siding, and stucco house is a classic midcentury, ranch-style house, complete with split-level layout.

The first floor of the 2,974-square-foot house has a three-bedroom, two-bathroom living space upstairs as well as a spacious, one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment downstairs that includes a private entrance and its own laundry room. The setup provides quite a bit of flexibility, as the first-floor apartment has potential as a guest house or long- or short-term.

Built in 1954, the home has had many updates, including new windows, siding, flooring, roof, cabinets, counters, and appliances (including a wine cooler). The master shower has been expanded, and the landscaped lot, which measures approximately one-third of an acre, has room for pool or a secondary dwelling.

The kitchen is open to the family room and features Silestone counters and stainless-steel appliances.

The main house has carpet in bedrooms and hard tile in bathrooms.

Unfortunately, the downstairs weren’t staged for the listing, but its clear that their wood floors, fireplace, and full kitchen have strong appeal.

An upstairs deck looks over a large backyard with lots of potential.
