We’re used to seeing this particular style of contemporary home—though often not even half as well done—in the pricey hamlets of West Lake Hills and Rollingwood. This one, however, is nestled in South Austin’s Zilker neighborhood, with Barton Springs nearby to the west and South Lamar entertainment close to the east.

Designed by lauded local firm Dick Clark + Associates, it features the kind of practical, modern design and attention to detail that firm is known for and that recently got the home profiled in Dwell magazine. The two-story, steel-and-stucco house measures 2,758 square feet and has three bedrooms and four bathrooms.

According to Dick Clark + Associates’s website, the design “borrows the spirit of International style,” which is evident primarily in the horizontal orientation and straight lines of the exterior. The added details—such as the slatted screen wall that provides privacy and brings first and second story together—are practical, well-integrated, and elegant.

Landscaping provides a backdrop and focal point for the open indoor spaces, connected to the outdoors with large windows and glass doors. The kitchen features all kinds of snazzy stuff, including a Miele gas range, a stainless Thermador refrigerator, and DOCA cabinetry. Kitchen and living-area floors are terrazzo (swoon).

The home also features motorized shades, built-in speakers, engineered white-oak floors, and Brizo, Grohe, Toto, and Lacava fixtures in the bathrooms.

Among the exterior features are a covered patio with a fireplace, a fenced yard, and a climate-controlled garage.
