Rent comparison: What $4,700 gets you

A choice of homes in the central city

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, a column that explores what one can rent for a set dollar amount in various Austin neighborhoods. Is one person’s studio another person’s townhouse? Let’s find out! Today’s price: $4,700/month.

903 Shoal Cliff Court #A, five-bedroom, two-bathroom house, 1,481 square feet, $5,000/month. This house in West University rents for a little more than this week’s price limit, true, but it’s a single-family home in that increasingly densely built neighborhood. (there’s a detached second unit in back, rented separately). Convenient to North Lamar and Downtown as well as to the UT campus, it could be work for a university-connected family or as a group house. It has wood floors, a washer and dryer, and a small, fenced backyard. Cats and small dogs are allowed.

206 East Live Oak Street #E, two-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bathroom condo apartment, 1,985 square feet, $4,600/month. Advertised as a potential live-work space, this three-story Travis Heights condo was built in 2017 and features high ceilings, wood windows, granite counter tops, marble vanities, hardwood and tile floors, rooftop deck, and a two-car garage. Cats and small dogs are allowed.

809 Sweet Grass Lane, Lakeway, four-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bathroom house, 3,970 square feet, $4,700/month. A hefty monthly rent and a Lakeway location will get you this very large, two-story home with big media and game rooms, a balcony with views, and a private backyard with a covered patio. No pets are allowed.

AMLI on Aldrich, 2410 Aldrich Street Apt. D10, three-bedroom, two-bathroom condo apartment, 1,993 square feet, $4,600/month. A unit in the walkable Mueller community, this place offers access to the vibrant life of the surrounding entertainment, shopping, and recreation. The unit includes a washer and dryer and cable. Cats are allowed, dogs allowed (breeds limited).

Undisclosed South Austin address, two-bedroom, two-bathroom house, 1,000 square feet, $4,750/month, fully furnished, all utilities included. Looking a little Real World-lite, this South Austin pad has an undisclosed address but looks to be in Bouldin Creek, near West Annie and South Fifth streets. Since furniture and utilities are included, it looks like a short-term rental, but there’s no mention of that in the listing. It has a fenced backyard and a nice-looking screened-in porch, as well as a washer and dryer. Cats and dogs are allowed.
