While the heat has given us somewhat of a break from our usual onslaught of marathons, festivals, and other miscellaneous events (and the August 11 Pride Parade should officially mark the end of the dead season), there will be two small street downtown street closures this weekend.
Both events are on Saturday; one is a brief closure of the Congress Avenue bridge for the Austin Duck Derby—which, thankfully, does not take place on a tourist duck boat, but is instead a race of rubber ducks on Town Lake that benefits the Austin Boys and Girls Club Foundation.
The grown-up nature of the second event should provide a nice balance: One block of West Second Street will be closed to cars for a ticketed block party benefiting the Austin Wine & Food Alliance and Stop Abuse for Everyone.and music shindigs in the country and still Old-Austin-scaled.
Information and maps below are from the Downtown Austin Alliance and Austin City Stage websites.
