On the market in five neighborhoods

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, a column that explores what one can rent or buy for a set dollar amount in various Austin neighborhoods. Is one person’s castle another person’s condo? Let’s find out! Today’s price: $230,000.

3414 Pennsylvania Avenue, 624 square feet, two-bedroom, one-bathroom house, $230,000. A small, spiffed-up home in Central East Austin if you’re either downsizing or just getting started in the home ownership game. The one-story, frame house was built in 1940 and has been recently updated, which includes a replacement of the HVAC system in 2016. It has a large, fenced yard as well.

Far West Skyline Condos, 3840 Far West Boulevard #107, 985 square feet, two-bedroom, two-bathroom condo, $230,000. This one-story unit in a quiet, well-maintained, gated Northwest Hills community has a master bathroom with a double vanity and two closets (one a walk-in), recent laminate flooring, a wood-burning fireplaces, and a study/sun room area.

1510 North Loop Unit 723, 990 square feet, two-bedroom, two-bathroom condo, $240,000. Centrally located in a highly walkable Brentwood neighborhood near Burnet Road, this condo has wood flooring in the kitchen, living room, and bedrooms as well as with freshly painted walls and ceilings. The greenbelt-adjacent community facilities include a pool, tennis courts, and a club house. Note: The HOA does not allow pets.

4800 Valcour Bay Lane, 1,877 square feet, three-bedroom, two-bathroom house, $229,000. For a bigger-than-small home, check on this one-story house in a gated community of Springdale Heights neighborhood in Northeast Austin. Built in 2010, the remodeled home has an open-plan kitchen/family room as well as an office that could be converted to another bedroom.

2020 Condominiums, 2020 South Congress Avenue #2220, 650 square feet, one-bedroom, one-bathroom condo, $227,500. If you want a location close to downtown and South Austin action (or just like the number “2”), this condo on the south end of the Bouldin Creek neighborhood might be the ticket. The upstairs end unit has hardwood floors, a bedroom with a walk-in closet, a reserved parking spot, and Google Fiber availability. Community amenities include a pool, a fitness center, a free laundry facility, a designated pet area, and a courtyard with gazebo and grills.
