Houses and condos for sale in five neighborhoods—which one would you choose?

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, a column that explores what one can rent or buy for a set dollar amount in various Austin neighborhoods. Today’s price: $1.4 million (or thereabouts) per month. Vote for your favorite below.

Tarrytown

2207 Quarry Road Via Realty Austin

A Tudor-style, two-story house with a detached garden studio/living area is asking $1.45 million in Tarrytown. The 1940 home on a 3.53-acre lot has been remodeled and features four bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms as well as wood floors, a fireplace, and other traditional elements.

Central East Austin

Via Moreland Properties

2004 East Eighth Street

This two-story East Austin house asking $1.449 million is kind of an open slate, as new homes tend to be, but its contemporary exteriors and landscaping are assertively modern. The 3,052-square-foot home has four bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, and a detached garage apartment as well as a rooftop deck.

Travis Heights

Via Redfin

1405 Alameda Drive

A historic brick bungalow in Travis Heights starts off fairly traditionally, with an inviting front porch, hardwood floors, a fireplace, and quirky/flexibility-lending features such as its downstairs bedrooms with private entrances. The two-story addition means three bedrooms and two bathrooms total in the 2,226-square-foot main house. Then there’s a whole other, fun and arty guest house in back, a heated and cooled plunge pool, and the Tesla charging station. All for $1.39 million.

Downtown

If it is the high-flying Downtown lifestyle you seek, you might want to check out this 1,609-square-foot unit with two bedrooms and two bathrooms in the Austonian condominium building. It has the expected luxury finishes and building amenities (including two side-by-side parking spaces) and is asking $1.449 million plus HOA dues of $1,433 per month.

Manana Park/Lake Austin

2503 Manana Street via Compass

The waterfront footage and boat dock might be some of the things that make this 1976 home in the Manana Park subdivision on Lake Austin near City Park appealing. Another might be the upstairs-downstairs stone fireplaces and general style of its era, which is still fully present. The 2,100-square-foot home has two bedrooms and two bathrooms and is on the market for $1.4 million.
