Looking positively Californian, a newly listed South Austin contemporary shows off the superb modern design skills of lauded local firm Baldridge Architects (of Arrive East Austin, Kimber Modern Hotel, and numerous stunning residences around town).

Built in 2013, the two-story home makes full use of its deep Bouldin Creek lot, finding space for a total of 3,489 square feet, five bedrooms, five bathrooms, and—perhaps best of all—a pool and generous patio extending from underneath a cantilevered second floor with an overlooking balcony.

The interiors are open and modern, with polished concrete, hard tile, and wood floors. There are two living areas in the main house, one of which features a fireplace and opens to the kitchen and back patio-pool area.

A set of seven stairs to the left descends into the room, separated from the kitchen by a glass-enclosed fireplace on a cantilevered concrete base, echoed above by a rectangular, wood-enclosed chimney. A low, modern couch, rectangular coffee table, and a rougher hewn credenza against a wall are in the foreground. Patrick Y Wong

A modern, wooden, oval table with an flared oval base is surrounded by six chairs on a cowhide rug and under an ellipsoidal paper pendant A built-in credenza and kitchen island with enameled metal lower cabinets and drawers are in the background, as is a paneled kitchen wall with an open shelf and stainless vent hood. A large, rectangular, brick mass in the back of the space separates stairs going up to the left and down to the right. There’s a floor-to-ceiling window on the back right of the room. Patrick Y Wong

There’s a sliding glass door and transom on the back wall, and a short, wide rectangular on the adjacent wall. A queen bed, nightstands, lamps, and a wall clock are arranged on the left. To the right is a credenza and an armchair. The furniture is new but midcentury style. There’s modern sliver metal ceiling fan with a cylindrical light fixture above. Patrick Y Wong

The home at 2212 South Third Street also features a garage apartment with a bedroom, a bathroom, a full kitchen, and its own entrance. The listing is held by Creede Fitch of Skout Real Estate.
