Travelers in the United States set all kinds of records involving guns and aircraft in 2019, according to a Thursday Transportation Security Administration report. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport topped one of the TSA’s remarkably robust set of lists, coming in at the top of the list for number of firearms per traveler found at checkpoints and in carry-on bags for the year.
ABIA’s total number of guns discovered makes it the eighth in the nation for that statistic overall, but, as KUT pointed out in a in a Monday story, that number is the highest seized per traveler in the past year—it had 15.8 million passengers in 2018, with 93 firearms discovered.
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport topped both lists, with 298 guns seized and 107 million passengers in 2018; that airport also tallied the most firearms discovered in a single month.
Three other Texas airports—Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Dallas Love Field Airport, and Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport—ranked in the top 10 for the total number of of firearms discovered last year.
