Homes for lease in five central neighborhoods

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, a column that explores what one can rent or buy for a set dollar amount in various Austin neighborhoods. Today’s price: $1,475 (or thereabouts) per month. Vote for your favorite below.

You can lease a one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment surrounded right on the greenbelt in this Barton Hills complex for $1,450/month, which also has such amenities as a year-round, salt-water swimming pool, a 24-hour fitness center, and a puppy park. The 720-square-foot unit has granite countertops, custom cabinets, and stainless steel appliances in the kitchen and nine-foot ceilings. Pets are allowed.

Built in 1976, this two-story duplex apartment retains some of the hip vibes and details of its time but has also been well-maintained and renovated. It’s listed as being located in the Oakmont Heights area of East Riverside-Oltorf, which means it’s in southern part of the neighborhood, where there are still lots of single-family homes on tree-lined streets. It has two bedrooms and one and half bathrooms, measures 1,080 square feet, and rents for $1,450/month.

Located on the edge of Brentwood on North Lamar Boulevard, the Camden Lamar Heights Apartments offer one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartments for $1,469/month. The 680-square-foot apartments have modern amenities including stainless steel appliances, wood-style flooring, and quartz countertops. Since it’s in a conveniently located, mixed-use development, there are also live-work units with storefronts available. Intriguing! Cats and small dogs are allowed (so the cute, large-ish dog in the photo must have gotten some kind amnesty).

1704 Riverview Street

It’s nothing fancy, but a single-family home with a large yard in Holly can be a kind of urban paradise. The one-story, 672-square foot house is tucked into a leafy corner of that neighborhood, easily walkable to the lake and Edward Rendon Sr. Park on the lake as well as to downtown. The house has two bedrooms, one bathroom, and wood floors, although it looks like it’s cooled by window units. It’s renting for $1,500/month, and pets are allowed.

In what is an unusual but appealing-looking setup, one of the large, two-story homes common in the Windsor Park neighborhood has been divided to create a townhouse-style apartment attached to the main home. The feng shui appears to be good in this 1,200-square-foot unit, which has two bedrooms and one bathroom, as well as open-plan layout, wood floors, and its own patio/garden area with French doors leading to the apartment. It’s renting for $1,500.
