7 Austin open houses to check out this weekend

This week’s open homes includes more ritzy modernism and a 1930s surprise as we head deeper into South Austin and toward Rollingwood

In light of our always-overheated housing market, we thought it might be helpful to offer some open-house suggestions to narrow things down—even if you’re not looking to buy, because who doesn’t love a little real estate gawking?

In addition to (probably) decent weather, this weekend brings the Tribeza Interiors Tour on Sunday. For that reason, we’re concentrating on southwest areas of Austin, especially Rollingwood, where many of the homes on the tour are located. It could be a great day for mixing and matching, tour-wise.

Where: 2800 Hubbard Circle, Rollingwood

When: 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, January 26

Specs: 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms; 2,666 square feet

Selling points: The downtown views are a big draw here, as are the woodsy, winding roads of Rollingwood. The large, updated 1950s home has been updated but retains key period features including a stacked-stone fireplace and picture windows overlooking the skyline and its very own swimming pool. There’s also a covered porch and a large patio with a fire pit on its half-acre lot.

Asking price: $2.5 million

Where: 900 Lund St Unit B

When: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, January 25

Specs: 2 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms; 1,800 square feet

Selling points: A Zilker condo built in 2009, the three-story overlooks is walkable to popular South Austin locations. The modern-styled unit has oak hardwoods, a gas fireplace, an updated kitchen, and a two car-garage with climate-controlled bonus room.

Where: 706 Loma Linda Drive

When: noon, Sunday, January 26

Selling points: A brand-new home in West Lake Hills, this open-plan contemporary embodies the type of Hill Country modern Dick Clark Architecture set the bar for. Set on the edge of a canyon, the two-story home is designed in split-level style, with large main living area capturing the view from a wall of windows. It has a pool, an outdoor kitchen, a large covered patio, and a balcony off the master bedroom

Asking price: $2,995,000

Where: 508 Leland Street

When: 1 p.m., Saturday, January 25

Specs: 4 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms; 3,246 square feet

Selling points: A Davey McEathron-Urban ATX joint, this two-story South Austin home has tall, vaulted ceilings and expansive windows emphasize verticality and spaciousness. There are high-end finishes throughout, including some impressive custom walnut cabinetry and hand-painted clay and cement tile from Mexico and Morocco. There are also top-of-the-line appliances, plumbing, and lighting fixture. The yard features the requisite pool and patio, and it looks like there’s an ample balcony in front as well.

Asking price: $1,695,000

Where: 700 W Live Oak St # 2

Selling points: While there’s no getting around the fact that this is an ADU next to a much larger home (with another in back, but there is a yard in between), it has definite charms, including its Bouldin Creek location, its price, and the fact that it’s a not only reasonably sized but charming 1930s home with a renovated kitchen and bathroom, hardwood floors, and a backyard with large shade trees.
