Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, a column that explores what one can rent or buy for a set dollar amount in various Austin neighborhoods. Today’s price: $3,600 (or thereabouts) per month. Vote for your favorite below.
Travis Heights
A nicely if suspiciously furnished (is it a secret short-term rental?) Tudor Revival house in Travis Heights is going for $3,600 per month right now. In addition to the furniture, the 1,119-square-foot home has two bedrooms and one bathroom and features wood floors and handmade woodwork, an artist-designed bathroom with handmade tiles, and a private backyard with garden space and outdoor shower.
Central East Austin
The $3,500 per month rent charged for this unusually laid-out home is for the front part only. There’s an attached studio apartment in back that rents separately. The main house, which measures 2,100 square feet and has been renovated to evoke the home’s vintage style, has three bedrooms and two a half bathrooms. The main house and apartment can be rented together for $4,300 per month.
Zilker
If Barton Springs is your jam, this two-bedroom, two-bathroom condo might be just what you’re looking for. Sited right at the intersection of Barton Creek and Lady Bird Lake, the home rents for $3,700 per month.
West University
If you want to live in the coolest apartment around, check out this condo in the three-unit Cranfill Apartments, designed by pioneering midcentury-modern architect Harwell Hamilton Harris. Renting for $3,500 per month, loft-style home has a two-story wall of windows, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and 1,394 square feet of pure modernist pleasure. It’s tucked away on a quiet street in West University to boot.
Downtown
A larger-than-average, one bedroom apartment in the new Gables Republic Square residences is currently available for $3,650 per month. The 940-square-foot unit has one and a half bathrooms, a walk-in closet, and a balcony. Connected to the new Hotel Zaza Downtown, it has all the luxury community amenities one would expect, including parking, a fitness center, a pool, and a sundeck.
