In light of our always-overheated housing market, we thought it might be helpful to offer some open-house suggestions to narrow things down—even if you’re not looking to buy, because who doesn’t love a little real estate gawking?

This week takes us to north central Austin, exploring bungalows and big contemporaries alike in the neighborhoods north of Hyde Park and south of Research Boulevard.

Where: 6004 Shoal Creek Boulevard

When: 1-4 p.m. Sunday, February 2

Specs: 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2,879 square feet

Selling points: Shoal Creek runs behind the very large house with the very large yard in Allandale. Built in 2018, the two-story, contemporary home has a whole wall of windows facing the backyard and the creek, as well as screened porch with a fireplace and a utility room with a dog wash. Definitely for lovers of the outdoors.

Asking price: $1.25 million

Where: 4814 Hammond Avenue

When: noon-4 p.m. Saturday, February 1

Specs: 2 bedrooms, 1 bathrooms, 856 square feet

Selling points: The groovy little house in groovy North Loop is brand new, with stained concrete floor and 10- to 15-foot, vaulted ceilings. It’s on a leafy street and walkable to North Loop and Hyde Park’s retail and restaurant attractions.

Asking price: $414,995

Where: 5106 Avenue H

When: noon-4 p.m. Saturday, February 1

Specs: 3 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, 2,501 square feet

Selling points: More North Loop goodness can be seen in this two-story contemporary, built in 2018 and featured in your very own Curbed Austin this week. The half-metal, half-stucco siding isn’t to everyone’s taste, but what is? In addition, the interiors are gorgeous, with an exceptionally well designed floor plan.

Asking price: $949,000
