MetroRapid 801 North Lamar-South Congress, one of Austin’s two bus rapid transit lines operated by Capital Metro, travels between Tech Ridge to Southpark Meadows, mostly via North Lamar and South Congress boulevards.

From the north, it starts at Tech Ridge Bay 1, east of I-35 near Center Ridge Road. It travels southeast to Parmer Lane, where it crosses I-35 and catches North Lamar Boulevard and heads south. The second stop is at North Lamar and Kramer Lane, after which stops become more frequent as it continues south, jogging over to Guadalupe Street at the Triangle split.

It continues on Lavaca Street after Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard, crosses the South First Bridge, and jogs again to South Congress, making a quick side trip to South Congress Station Bay J just south of Highway 71, then continues on South Congress and the I-35 access road to its terminal stop at Southpark Meadows.

The line’s stops are clustered most densely in the UT Campus/Downtown area, and some riders might have to transfer to regular buses or use other means of transportation to get to their ultimate destinations, but MetroRapid lines are built to be faster and more streamlined, with front and back entry and exit doors, priority or dedicated lanes and frequent runs. They also have wifi, run every 10 minutes (15 minutes on weekends), and run until 2:30 a.m. Thursday through Sunday.

For reasons unknown, there are no two-bedrooms for rent near the Southpark Meadows stop, but you can rent this fine-looking one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment for $1,125 per month. It has in-unit laundry facilities, and the complex has a pool and a fitness center.

Again, it’s mostly one-bedroom apartments or much bigger houses here near the Little Texas Station. This two-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bathroom, 1,395-squre-foot condo can be had for $1,750 per month, though. It has two stories, stainless appliances including a washer and dryer, and no lawn maintenance.

A two-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment that looks like a section of IKEA (and what’s wrong with that?) can be leased for $1,525 near the St. Edward’s stop. It measures 800 square feet, has recently been remodeled, and is walkable to lots of great restaurants and other good places along South Congress.

The Catherine

Luxury apartment building the Catherine is right on top of the Vic Mathias & Auditorium Shores Station, practically—who knew? Right now, there’s a two-bedroom, two-bathroom unit measuring 1,226 square feet available for $4,905 per month. You’ll get views, walkability, a pool, and a fitness center with that.

Skipping the easy/pricey pickings Downtown and in the UT campus area, we head to Triangle Station (“station” seems a little glorified for some of these stops, but okay). Here we have access to apartments and condos in the Triangle, or you can go across the street for a little Hyde Park number like this one-story, 1,100-square-foot house with two bedrooms and two bathrooms for $1,750 per month. It has appliances including a washer/dryer, wood floors, a porch, and other signs of character.

Stepping off at the Crestview Station, on the border of Crestview and Highland, gives you lots of options, including newer apartments in medium-sized complexes. Or you could go with this two-bedroom, one-bathroom, 988-square-foot house with a yard for about the same price ($1,795 per month) if you’re into that sort of thing.

The Bridge at Center Ridge

If you’re coming and going from the northernmost stop on the line, the Tech Ridge stop, you’ll have many apartment options. They include this two-bedroom, two-bathroom unit measuring 1,045 square feet, for $1,285 per month.
