There are many reasons home buyers choose condos over single-family homes—the trend toward paring down, a distaste for lawn maintenance, and transitioning through various life changes are all factors, among other.
Often, condos are also less expensive than detached houses, but that’s not always the case—in fact, especially when one looks at prices per square foot, quite the opposite can be true.
We partnered with real-estate analytics site NeighborhoodX to take a close look at current asking prices for condos and plucked out the 10 most expensive, ranked on a per-square-foot basis. Here are some of the findings:
The 10 most expensive condos currently for sale in Austin range from $2.55 million to $5.3 million.
While all are fairly large (ranging from 2,692 to 5,298 square feet), size isn't the only driver of the price differences. Prices per square foot vary considerably as well, from $644 per square foot (555 East 5th Street #3101) to $1,500 per square foot at the Austonian."
Also not a surprise: the priciest units are clustered in a handful of high-profile residential or residential/hotel buildings, including the Four Seasons, the (future) Independent, and the Austonian.
