Since the 1980s, Austin's gay-owned and gay-friendly businesses have sponsored Austin's GLBTQ community's Labor Day/Last Day of Summer celebration Last Splash (or Splash, as it's sometimes known) with party barges at festivities at Hippie Hollow on Lake Travis. This year's party takes place Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free, though Travis County Parks charge a $15/vehicle fee if you drive in or a $8/person fee if you walk/bike in to Hippie Hollow Park—which, please note, is clothing-optional.

We're not going to get into recommending every music and food/drink event for the weekend, but this looks like a fun party with some community service thrown in the mix. There will be brewery tours, live music, some adoptable pets from Austin Pets Alive, and Ghisallo Cycling Initiative, and Save Our Springs Alliance will be doing cool things. Oh, and there's cake. Monday, Sept. 5, starting at noon.

Picnic for a cause with the folks at Dozen Street bar on East 12th Street on Monday. From 3pm to 5pm, there will be a potluck picnic and kid-friendly activities like cornhole games, foursquare, three-legged race, and face-painting, as well as a kids talent show. During that time there will also be speaking and demonstration opportunities for local organizations, spoken word and stump speeches, community outreach for food and school supplies drives, voter registration, black business networking, fireside chats, !&A opportunities and more. From 7pm to 9pm there will be a variety show and open mic. At 9pm, bands including Tusk Her, Tomahawk, and Soul Man Sam start, and the Open Jam starts at midnight. Whew. All that for suggested donations of $5, canned food, and/or school supplies.

Yes, it's a Labor Day sale, one among billions. But this one is part tent party—hot dogs and cornhole games—that will take up collections throughout the day for Community First, the Mobile Loaves and Fishes community of tents, tiny houses, and RVs for homeless people in Austin; there will also be a display of tables made at the community's woodworking shop. And, you know, deep discounts on things.
